Baby Update- Week 35!

Over the last few weeks our house has been busy with 'Baby' activities. After waiting for weeks for the furniture company to come out and 'fix' the wrong size screw holes in the crib, the boys were finally able to put together the crib.

Little Man attended a 'Siblings Class' at the Hospital where they learned how to change diapers, burp the baby, hold, swaddle, and other helpful tips (like wash hands alot, and don't pick up the baby unless Mommy and Daddy say it is ok). He was very uncertain about this class since he ended up being the ONLY boy in the class and they were all sitting around playing with BABY DOLLS (gasp!)! Fortunately Vim was there to show him that you can still be manly and hold a baby doll.
Finally, we went to the doctor on Monday for our 35wks check up and found out we are 3cms dilated, 60-70% effaced and the baby has dropped (-1 station for those of you who are up on your lingo). She said she was confident the baby was big and over 6lbs due to the ultra sound a week ago and my belly size. And she was ok with us having this baby anytime now. Realizing that she could not tell us exactly when we would go into labor, I did ask her if she could give us her best guess on how much longer we would make it- 2wks? 3wks? And her response was 'of course I can't be certain, but if I had a crystal ball it would show that you won't make it to your next appt, Monday.' Wow, talk about reality setting in. Part of me feels like a kid the night before Christmas and part of me worries about if I have remembered everything, how will the delivery go and will baby Vim be ok...I know God has everything in control, and knows the exact date and time baby Vim will be here. So we wait- with great anticipation and excitement! It would be nice though to make it at least till late Saturday night...our good friends are throwing us a baby shower and I would hate to make Vim go alone or for us to have to cancel it!

Happy 30th, my love!

Yesterday was Vim's 30th birthday. We started out celebrating it the night before with his family at Lupe Tortilla's for dinner. Afterwards I informed him that we were sending Little Man home with Bic and Pops (who so graciously had schemed with me before and agreed to keep Little Man), and we had a night out planned for us. He had told me before to not do anything big for his Birthday, that I didn't need to stress myself out. I of course could not 'Not do anything'...I mean, you only turn 30 once, right!? So I surprised him with a little night out and took him to The Melting Pot in Houston for dessert. It is a foundu place, and you can choose between 7 or 8 differnt chocolate combinations to dip strawberries, bananas, pound cake, etc in....it was sooo good....even though we had already had dessert that night! Opps! We were soooo stuffed, I thought one of us was going to be sick! Then we went to the Intercontinental Hotel, where I had reserved a room for us. One last night away, alone, and where we could sleep in the next morning. We slept till 9:30 the next morning! Impressive, I know!

Vim is hard to plan surprises for, since he is not a planner...For example, I am a planner, so I plan what I am going to be doing in advance which allows Vim to work around and manipulate my plans to surprise me. But Vim is not so much a planner, so when I asked him last week about his birthday, he said he was going to take Monday off. So I made plans...then he informs me on Sunday that he changed his mind and didn't take off the day. AHHH! So I had to inform him that he was going to take off at least part of the day b/c I had already made plans!! Fortunately his boss was very understanding.

Little Man and I made a peach cobbler for him, and we opened gifts that night. I love you babe, Happy 30th Birthday! Can't wait to spend the next 30yrs with you...

A Moment for the Ladies...

I stole this off of Cool Boots blog spot...It reminds me off all the little moments I have had with each of you girlfriends out there. Old and New girlfriends. Far and Near girlfriends. I know I am still 'young' in my walk of woman-hood, but so many of these things Kelly mentions bring memories to mind. I can't imagine how many more moments we women will share together over the next 5, 10, 15, 25...and more years. So here's to all the girlfriends in my life, thank you for being you- I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

34 Weeks! Update

Praise the Lord! We have hit 34 weeks! We had our doctor's appt today and we left feeling like a huge weight had been lifted off our shoulders. I am dilated 2cms, which she said was normal. The ultra sound last week measured Vimmer to be 6lbs! Our doctor was very happy with this news and told us that if we go into labor any time now that we should be ok. She even mentioned that if we make it to 39 weeks we would schedule an induction...never thought I would be having this conversation! Needless to say, we are thrilled and now in the sit and wait mode. Our bags are packed and the babies room is almost finished. I will post some pictures in the next week or two. Praise God that Vimmer is so big and healthy and has made it this far, we really feel blessed! Thank you all who have been praying for us...we really do appreciate you!

33 weeks!

It has been a long time since I posted an update on the pregnancy and baby Vim, but here we are, just 7 weeks away (we hope). I say we hope because Little Man was 6 weeks early, and statistics show that the second one will also be early (if not earlier). So this week and the next 2 weeks are somewhat critical weeks to us. We would be thrilled if we make it to 36 weeks or beyond. Which would mean it is very feasible we could be just 3 weeks away! Kind of crazy if you ask me. We are of course excited and ready to meet him, but we would prefer a full term fat and sassy baby with a normal, no complications delivery. I also have a few more projects I would like to get done before Vimmer makes his appearance. SO hold off buddy! Stay in there, it's for sure warmer in there then it is out here!

So far the pregnancy has been fairly uneventful. One minor scare a few weeks ago, which we were scared into thinking (by a nurse) that it was possible I was in labor. But all is good...I guess the nurse wanted to keep us on our toes. Talk about good, God has been sooo very good to us this far and I know he will continue to be faithful. We appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers thus far and would really appreciate them these next few weeks as we enter into the home stretch. We are now into weekly appointments. I had a doctor's appointment today and I am already 50% thinned and 1cm dilated. She said that if I had dilated anymore that she would have put me on bed rest. I am now on orders to sit with my feet up, and to take it very easy. We have an ultra sound later this week to see how Vimmer is growing. Look for an update later on! And yes my belly is getting big! (As little man would say)

Come again!?

I couldn't help but post this right after hearing it. Hope it brings a smile to your face like it did mine! Have a great day!

ME: How was your day at school?
LITTLE MAN: Good! I had an Abstitute.
ME: An Abstitute? What does that mean?
LITTLE MAN: It means my teacher was absent so we had another one teach us today.
ME: OHHH! A substitute!
LITTLE MAN: Yes, a substitute!

Christmas Highlights...

This was our first year to celebrate Christmas at our house. Usually we go to either of the grandparents houses but this year we thought it would be nice to start our own traditions and have Christmas at home. I was a little nervous about it, since we are usually with siblings and extended family, I thought it might be weird not having so many people there to share it with us but it actually went really well! It felt just like Christmas (imagine that)! And the grandparents came to visit us. Santa brought Little Man a new bike, which he loves...it's just a little too big, but at the rate he is growing it won't be long till it is just right.

I was telling Vim that Christmas is kind of like a wedding to me. There is all this preparation and build up and then before you know it, it has come and gone. All the decorations have been put away, the lights in the yard, the tree, the stockings, the presents...it really is kind of sad but the good thing about Christmas, unlike a wedding, is that next year we get to do it all over again! (Vim also pointed out that a wedding cost more than Christmas--- leave it to my husband to think about it from a financial perspective). Well I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!

(since being with Vim, it is not Christmas without pulling out the guns)

Happy Birthday Jesus!

I am a little behind on posting, but chalk it up to Holiday festivities...(I don't know why, but I just love the word 'festivities' it is just so...so....so...festive!)
Any-who, little man made a cake for Jesus' birthday!

More Christmas pictures to come....things here have been busy but good!
